Jeremy Lawton Susac currently serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Real Energy Strategies Group in Palm Beach, Florida. Concurrent with this position, Mr. Susac serves on various boards of non-profits such as the the Florida BioEnergy Association, Director of Smart Grid and Innovation with Citizens for Clean Energy, an associate member on the Southern States Energy Board, and as a member on the Growth and Infrastructure Task Force for the Economic Council of Palm Beach County. Additionally, Mr. Susac works with the Florida-based firm Smart Energy Grid Associates (SEGA), special counsel to the national education campaign ‘American Biofuels Now’ and is designated as an ‘energy expert’ with the Florida media.
Immediately prior, Mr. Susac served in the public sector as Florida’s first Executive Director (ED) of the Florida Energy & Climate Commission (FECC). The FECC is responsible for coordinating energy policy among various agencies, critical resource for the Executive Office of the Governor and the Florida Legislature. In addition, Jeremy served as the Executive office of the Governor’s appointee on all stimulus funding relating to energy under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act where he oversaw the development of Florida’s $175 million spending plan while assisting various companies’ applications seeking federal dollars. In this same capacity, Mr. Susac was responsible for all petroleum allocation throughout the state of Florida during emergency operations, and advised the Governor on all utility restoration during extreme outages. Additionally, Jeremy also oversaw all State incentives for renewable energy and energy efficiency for the State of Florida while simultaneously coordinating state and federal energy policy on behalf of the FECC, Executive Office of the Governor. During this same time, Mr. Susac served as a technical advisor to the Governor and the Secretary Mike Sole of the Department of Environmental Protection during the passage of Florida’s most comprehensive energy bill, HB 7135 in 2008. Lastly, in this capacity, Mr. Susac also served as Florida’s energy delegate to the National Governor’s Association, the Southern Governor’s Association, and was appointed by the Governor to serve as the Governor’s alternate on the Southern State’s Energy Board.
Immediately prior, Mr. Susac served as the Director of Florida’s Energy Office at the Florida DEP. In this capacity, Mr. Susac managed the agency’s siting office, and was responsible for siting critical energy infrastructure such as large transmission lines and generating power plants, including Florida’s first nuclear power plant in thirty years. Additionally, Jeremy managed Florida’s Renewable Energy Grant Program which resulted in Florida’s first small-scale wind project, the nation’s first biodiesel blending facility for a public transportation authority, promoted numerous cellulosic ethanol facilities, and the largest rooftop solar installation in the Southeast. Lastly in this capacity, Mr. Susac managed Florida’s highly successful solar rebate program, and Florida’s renewable tax incentive program that resulted in on-line injection blending of biofuels at Florida ports, and significant increased deployment of E85 stations across 34 cities in Florida.
In addition, Mr. Susac served as Chief Advisor to a Commissioner at the Florida Public Service Commission. In that capacity, he provided the Commissioner with legal and public policy guidance on all matters that come before the Commission. At the national level, Mr. Susac also served on the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioner’s Electric, Nuclear, and Consumer Affairs staff subcommittees. As a technical advisor to these committees, he worked with regulators from across the nation on issues related to energy, alternative fuels, and conservation initiatives. Immediately prior, Susac served as a Senior Attorney in the Economic Regulation in Competitive Markets & Enforcement Division of the Florida PSC. Before that, Susac engaged in private law practice in New York City, and served as a summer clerk for a New York Supreme Court Judge.
Susac received a Bachelors of Art degree in Political Science from the University of Florida and his Juris Doctor from New York Law School. He is a member of both the Florida and New York Bar.
